Muncho Lake & Laird Hot Springs

After a relaxing time at Tetsa River Lodge we headed up to Muncho Lake. It was set to be another short driving day. Another beautiful drive. We left Tetsa and started our journey thinking about Oliver’s walk. Each time we were at a steep incline or descent, saw bears, or anything else, we couldn’t help but think about Oliver and his dog walking this road.

We took our time getting to Muncho Lake, stopping to cast a line, walk the girls, and enjoy the drive. Clemmie decided to take a swim in the ice cold water (silly girl). We pulled up to Northern Rockies Lodge late in the afternoon, checked in, booked dinner reservations, dropped the camper trailer, and headed the 45 minutes up to Liard Hot Springs. We saw wood bison herds on the way to and from Liard along and in the road, caribou and mountain goat. Liard Hot Springs Provincial Park had a reverse Jurassic Park feel to it. The park is surrounded by an electric fence such that the humans are the ones who are fenced in. We had a nice soak in the springs and headed back for a delicious supper.

The campground had filled up a bit since we had dropped the camper, but it was relatively quiet still and our campsite was right on Muncho Lake so not too bad. We had time to relax that evening. But knew tomorrow held the longest drive of the trip from Muncho Lake, BC to Whitehorse, YT.
