The Big Move: Day 8

Best Cinnamon Buns in the Galactic Cluster

We consulted Milepost first thing in the morning. We needed to find somewhere else to stay. There were no cancellations at the next campground we had booked so we would need to find somewhere in between. We didn’t set our expectations high. Tetsa River Services and Campground sounded great and it was only a few hours away. We figured it couldn’t get much worse. We wanted to relax. We needed it. We had been eating either chili or mac n’ cheese every night for 7 nights (taco bowls one night). I took the coldest shower ever that morning since I’m stubborn and refused to pay for hot water since “free showers” were advertised and I needed a shower.

Time to start carrying our bear spray

So on to Tetsa River to see what waited for us there. The drive was beautiful. We pulled up to Tetsa early in the evening to find a welcoming lodge and awesome hosts. When we went to check in, the smell was amazing. Home cooked meals, fresh bread. Wow. You must have been able to tell we’d been on the road for a bit because the owner asked us “how long has it been since you’ve had a home cooked meal?”, “A week” we responded. She prepped us up take outs of roasted chicken with dill cream sauce, roasted potatoes, corn, and homemade sourdough bread. I asked about showers. She told me they had nice hot showers so I could rinse the shampoo out of my hair. It was then I realized it had been over 8 days since washing my hair, luckily the braids had helped, but I must have looked like I needed a wash. She directed us to our site and told us to be sure to come in for cinnamon buns in the morning.

Finally, a home cooked meal that wasn’t Mac n’ Cheese

The campsite was great! Level, shaded, trees on both sides, and no one right next to us. It was quiet and so peaceful. We knew we would sleep well. And the meal was incredible. We devoured it then settled in to relax for the rest of the evening. The next morning we went for our pre-bun run and ended strategically at the doors of the lodge. Yes, these were the best cinnamon buns we have had. The advertisement did not lie, they really were the best buns in the galactic cluster.

Tetsa River Lodge

We met an amazing person here. Oliver Tic is from Slovenia and has been walking from Argentina to Alaska (and we thought we were on a long journey). Tom chatted with him and found out that the dog walking with him was a stray from Peru and they had formed a bond. She has been walking with him since. I now often find myself wondering how their journey is going and hoping they are doing well.
