The Big Move: Day 7

Fingers crossed

It can’t be worse than this place. That was our conversation while pulling out of the campground that morning. It could have been worse, I’m sure, but I wouldn’t stay there again. Fortunately, there was a Tim Hortons nearby to start our morning off right (gotta get that double-double – coffee with 2 cream and 2 sugars – and a donut). We are suckers for Canadian Tim Hortons and A&W.

Our leveler broke off the camper in the rain the day before so we wanted to stop and pick up a replacement before getting underway. We stopped at Canadian Tire which also had a shopping center. I wanted to check tire pressure and tighten the lug nuts too. I asked the guy at the tire counter if they could do this for us, “Sure! Pull it around to the bays.”, was the response. The technician filled up the tires, tightened the lugs and we were good to go. Me: “How much?” Tire guy: “No charge.” Wait. What?! No charge? Me: “Seriously?” Tire guy: “Yup, no charge, just have a safe trip.” Wow, that was awesome.

Now we were set. Tire pressure and lug nuts checked. Tim Hortons double-double coffees to drink, donuts to eat. On to Peace River, BC. Fingers crossed that Sikanni River Campground would be all it was advertised as in Milepost. Both online and in Milepost, the campground had nice photos and was described as having serviced sites, WiFi, coin laundry, free showers, clean washrooms, a convenience store, fuel, and surrounded by natural beauty with riverside camping. Sounds nice. Let’s hope so because we were supposed to stay two nights. We were looking forward to being able to relax for a day without driving. This two-day was going to provide us with a much needed break.

Entering the Alaska Highway, at last!

The campground was not what was advertised. We did have electric at the site. It was near the river. No WiFi: not necessary but would have been nice since no cell service. No laundry: no big deal since we hadn’t planned on doing any. Free showers: only if you want cold water; you had to pay for hot. No store: we needed ice. No fuel: fortunately we did not need it. Surrounded by beauty: the view was nice but not the loud generator right near camp. We only paid for one night. We would find somewhere else to stay the next day.

Taco bowls for a change!
At least we had a nice view.
